National Development Banks Learn How to Help Finance International Climate Projects in Latin America and the Caribbean

We defined how NDBs in Latin America and the Caribbean can play a major role in mobilizing international climate finance.

Finding solutions to global warming is on everyone’s priority to-do list but these solutions require funding. Momentus (formerly IFCL) was engaged by Inter American Development Bank (IDB) to assess the role National Development Banks (NDBs) in Latin America and the Caribbean can take in helping to finance these opportunities.

Our findings in the report outline how NDBs play a unique role at the national level to -up private sector financing for climate change mitigation projects. In particular, we explore the intermediation of international climate finance in their respective local credit markets.

IDB leveraged the information Momentus gathered during this engagement and shared it with the LAC NDB communities and beyond. It shows how to scale-up private sector financing for mitigation and adaptation investment projects that can offer effective operational conditions and Monitorable, Reportable, and Verifiable (MRV) results via NDBs.

The report was co-authored by Momentus’ founder, Diana Smallridge, along with Barbara Buchner, Chiara Trabacchi, María Netto, José Juan Gomes Lorenzo, and Lucila Serra
